ETE 100: Prompt 7

Discuss which technologies you believe, in accordance with the Gretzky Principle, we should be skating toward in American K-12 classrooms, and explain why.

In each category of horizon, near-term horizon, mid-term horizon, and far-term horizon, I think there are good ideas of technology that can be utilized in the classroom for the students and the teachers to use.

For the near-term horizon, I think it is a great idea to use cloud computing. It is a great tool to use for research and to use for collaboration. This is good because collaboration in the classroom is always a great and valuable tool. The video shows a 4-year-old being able to work this, so I think it would all ages would be able to operate cloud computing. Google apps are also good for the near-term horizon because Google is so common and used that many students will be able to work it. In addition, there are so many apps to use it is good for whatever the class may need.

Next is the mid-term horizon which discusses the use of cell phones in the classroom. I strongly believe this is a good and innovative idea to use in the classroom because nearly every student has a cell phone and would be willing to use it in school, even if it was for learning. Cell phones are able to do so much, and most of them even have internet access.Cell phones definitely coincide with the Gretzky Principle and skating towards the horizon.

Finally, there is the far-term horizon. Without question, the Augmented Reality Shooter is very interesting and could prove to be extremely valuable in the classroom. Though the video depicted a zombie game, there could be other games that could provide and educational purpose for students that they will enjoy. In addition, the game is interactive which would get students up and moving. I think this is also important. Students get restless sitting in desks all day. AR could get them up and out of their seats.
