ETE 100: Prompt 2

Evaluate whether you believe Bloom’s taxonomy is a perfect fit for teaching and learning in the 21st
century, as the author contends, or if you believe it is an outdated taxonomy for the digital classroom.

Though Bloom's Taxonomy has been around for a while, the concept is still widely used and referenced in classroom environments. The world was a lot different when Bloom created this taxonomy, and now it is being applied with using technology. I think it has been modified very well to relate to the 21st century for several reasons.

First, I think that, though children learn differently because of technology, they also grasp knowledge the way kids used to without technology. The only difference, however, is that modern children today use technology to aid with how they learn. Instead of reading from books, they will read from a Kindle or an iPad.

Secondly, I think that the verbs used in the digital remake is also very useful. Using verbs like designing, social networking, loading, and networking are very applicable to children. Children of today will be born learning how to work computers while my generation had to learn as technology developed. I think that the verbs used will be able to connect with students in the 21st century classroom.

Finally, I think Bloom's concept is still very solid. Children use these thinking skills whether they realize it or not, and this can be applied no matter what generation. All children need to be able to remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, and create. Technology can easily be incorporated to how children think.
